California Affordable Housing Development Association

Our Mission

The California Affordable Housing Development Association (CAHDA) is a 501(c)(6) organization that advocates for the common business interests of California's affordable housing development industry. Founded in 2016, CAHDA is dedicated to providing a voice and forum for affordable housing developers to build affordable and sustainable communities through the development of affordable and accessible housing throughout California.

Get Involved

CAHDA is an organization that seeks to connect affordable housing developers with resources to build sustainable communities. CAHDA members can discuss their common concerns with peers and learn from industry experts. One of the most popular aspects of CAHDA is its active role in legislative issues that impact the affordable housing development industry.

The Housing Crisis

Since the 1970s, California has been experiencing an extended and increasing housing shortage. By 2018, California had the 49th lowest ratio of housing units per resident. The shortage has been estimated at 3-4 million housing units (20-30% of California's housing stock, 14 million as of 2017). Experts say that California needs to double its current rate of housing production (85,000 units per year) just to keep up with expected population growth and prevent prices from further increasing, and needs to quadruple the current rate of housing production over the next 7 years in order for prices and rents to decline.
